Located in Mexico City, home to the Mexico national team and the legendary Club America, the Estadio Azteca is an inspirational temple for the teams that call it home and a frankly terrifying atmosphere for away teams to visit.
But a ground-shaking atmosphere is not enough to elevate a football stadium to a football Mecca. The walls of the Azteca have housed some of the sport's greatest ever players and moments.
The largest stadium in Latin America, fifth largest in the world, it has been an Olympic venue and a World Cup host in 1970 and 1986. The Azteca's World Cup history is especially rich, having witnessed Maradona's "Hand of God" goal against England, the "Goal of The Century" again scored by Maradona later that same match, and the "Game of the Century" for Italy's 4-3 win over Germany. Both Pele and Maradona lifted their last World Cup trophy in the Azteca. It's difficult to imagine a stadium that has witnessed more significant moments in football history than the Estadio Azteca.
